The most popular antispyware software today is distributed by Lavasoft. Ad-Aware SE Personal, their free version that is available to home users, has been downloaded nearly one million times every week. What exactly is it that makes this program so popular with internet users today?

In our every changing electronic driven culture, maintaining privacy on the internet is on the top of most people’s minds. Ad-Aware SE Personal is a free program that is designed to detect and remove spyware that has been installed on your computer. Why is it so important to have spyware removed from your system?

Spyware is a program that runs in the background. Its only purpose is to perform operations that intrude on your privacy, such as recording the websites that you visit, or even worse, the buttons that you press on your keyboard and then send that information back to the developer of the spyware program. This means that certain spyware developers could potentially have a record of personal emails, information entered into web forms and passwords that you have typed! This is not good for obvious reasons.

Spyware is often found in free downloadable programs that users install on their systems. The only reason that these programs are offered for free in the first place is because spyware developers have paid them to insert their spyware into their software. What’s even worse, is that if you were to completely read the EULAs (End User License Agreement) that come with these programs, they will often tell you that these programs are included! So be sure you never select I Agree, without actually knowing what you are agreeing to.

So now that you have been careless and have spyware programs on your computer, what can you do? Well, go to the Lavasoft website and install a copy of their Ad-Aware SE Personal. Once this has been completed, you will want to run a complete system scan on your computer so that Ad-Aware has the chance to fully check your computer for spyware programs. Once the scan is complete, you will have the opportunity to decide what you would like to do with any spyware programs that Ad-Aware has found on your system. The most concerning of these is any spyware component that is found within your computer’s registry.

Sometimes a program will not work properly once you have used the Ad aware program to remove the spyware component of it, but in this situation you have to ask yourself, do you really want to use a program that requires spyware in order to work properly? Kazaa is an example of one of these programs, so if you must have Kazaa, do not run Ad aware.

If you are a commercial user, or need a more powerful version of Ad-Aware to meet your needs, Lavasoft offers several different versions of their antispyware application. For your convenience in selecting the correct one to suit your needs, Lavasoft has included a product comparison chart that can be found on their website.

Spyware is becoming a very big problem for internet users. It is a program that will hide itself from the user but will perform operations in the background that intrude on your privacy. These programs will often come with other free downloads such as Kazaa, Imesh or Cuteftp. The reason that these programs have been given to you for free in the first place is because companies will pay the developers of these programs to insert their spyware programs into them.

Spyware programs can cause many different problems with your computer. They will often create pop-up advertisements, or more seriously, log everything that you type into your keyboard and send the information back to the spyware developer. This means that they can see every email, password or information that you type into your internet browser! These programs will also often cause your computer to crash often or weaken your computer’s security making it more venerable to attacks from other hackers.

There is one program that you can use to help you protect your computer from spyware. This is to use a program called Ad-Aware. It is the recommended program for detecting and removing any spyware that has accumulated on your computer in the past. Once you have installed Ad-Aware, you are going to want to perform a system scan to see if you have any spyware installed on your computer. The most concerning of which are components that are found in the Registry keys.

Sometimes a program will not work properly once you have used the Ad-Aware program to remove the spyware component of it, but in this situation you have to ask yourself, do you really want to use a program that requires spyware in order to work properly? Kazaa is an example of one of these programs, so if you must have Kazaa, do not run Ad-Aware.

Ad-Aware is a must even if you decide that you just want to uninstall the program that has come with the spyware in it. In some cases, using the uninstall program for that application will also remove the spyware associated with it, but sometimes this is not the case. The people that have included the spyware programs in the software packages just want to steal information from you, so are you going to trust them that the spyware has been removed with their program? The only way to be completely sure is to run Ad-Aware or another similar program to scan your system for spyware.

Ad-Aware is an antispyware application that has been created and distributed by Lavasoft. They offer a free version of Ad-Aware for personal home users, but there are also several different levels of the program available for commercial use. Of course, these versions will offer more options and will cost money. To help you decide which version of Ad-Aware is going to suit your needs the best, Lavasoft has included a product comparison chart so that you can quickly determine the right Ad-Aware package for you based on your needs.

When it comes to computer security, the number one step in protecting yourself is to get and maintain a good up to date antivirus program to stop you from virus attacks. Many of these antivirus applications can be found in computer stores for wide range of costs. However, if you are like most people and would sooner get free software for you computer, there is no other like Avast! Avast! is the name used on a wide range of software products that are distributed by AWIL Software. Their Home Edition of the antivirus application has over 30 million users at the present time, making it one of the most popular free applications ever. So why exactly is this software so popular with internet users today? Well, they have history on their side! Avast is based on AWIL Software’s comprehensive scanning technology that was developed in 1988. It has fast incremental updates to keep the computer user’s antivirus program up to date and uses an advanced multi-layer real time protection of all the various infection vectors of a computer which helps it to protect your computer for malware at any time. In English, if you are browsing a webpage that wants to install software that is dangerous to your system, Avast will be able to detect and stop it for you. It will also scan emails that you have received before you open the attachments that came with them. This alone is a feature not often found with other free antivirus programs. Other features that can be found in ALWIL’s free antivirus program include a screensaver that scans the files of your computer, scheduled scans of your system and a management or control panel that allows you to manage any files that have been locked away in the antivirus application’s chest. Did we mention that they have already created a version of the Avast! Home Edition software that will run on Windows Vista operating system? Of course, in order for ALWIL to be able to offer such a comprehensive program for free to home users, they have to have a way of making money. This is done through their commercial versions of the antivirus software that are available to businesses and other commercial users for a cost. These versions of the antivirus software will come with a few more features that allow a business to manage the antivirus applications on many different computers. They are also entitled to technical support and other features that are not available for the home user. All in all, the Avast! Home Edition is ALWIL’s great service to the internet community. They are preventing the spread of viruses online by providing this software to home users that may not be able to or want to pay for antivirus protection. By doing this they are also helping to protect businesses and other users of the internet that are conscious about properly protecting themselves from the threat of malware that is found online and in emails.

AVG Antivirus review

Posted by pcfix on 26 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Antivirus, Avg, Malware, Security, Software

In the battle against malware attacks, computer users are becoming more aware of the need to have antivirus software on their computers. This is a great step in preventing problems related to malware, but many users cannot afford to purchase or download applications that cost money. This is why AVG Anti-Virus is a great option for most home users.

AVG Anti-Virus is offered for free to users of non-commercial computers. Millions of people have already downloaded and installed the software making AVG Anti-Virus one of the more popular free antivirus applications. However, if you require more protection than a basic antivirus program, you will need to purchase a more complete package offered by AVG. The free version is lacking in many areas such as technical support, anti-spyware, anti-spam, a firewall and multiple languages.

GRISOFT, which is the developer and distributor of AVG Anti-Virus has also recently made free anti-spyware and anti-rootkit programs available for home users if they are in need of these protections. For a computer user that is in need of a complete security suite, they also have release AVG Internet Security Home Edition, a complete protection package that can be used on up to three computers in your home. Of course, this comes at a cost to the user.

Once you have installed AVG Anti-Virus or another antivirus program, do not forget about the threat of malware. Unfortunately most free antivirus programs will not protect you from receiving these threats through email attachments, which is the most common way that they are spread. For this reason it is a good idea to be careful when receiving emails from people you know. If you did not expect to receive an attachment from them, then you should refrain from opening it until you can verify from that person that they did in fact send it to you. The reason for this is that many times when a computer is infected with a virus it will automatically send emails to everyone in your contact list with a copy of itself attached. If you receive an attachment from someone that you do not know, do not open it under any circumstance! A good rule of thumb is to use your common sense and do not open any attachments that are unsolicited.

An antivirus program is only as good as the virus definition file that is installed with it. For this reason, you are also going to want to be sure that your antivirus program is updating frequently. Even if you have the automatic updates feature of your antivirus program enabled, it is a good idea to check to see when the last update actually occurred. This way if your program is having problems connecting to the developers update server due to firewall issues or other problems, you can correct these issues in a timely manner so that your computer is not exposed to threats for a long period of time.

There are, unfortunately, some cases in which a virus or worm can attack your computer without the antivirus program picking it up. If you know that your computer has one of these infections but your antivirus program could not detect or remove it, you can download and run a virus cleaner that is targeted towards these particular infections. A quick search using your favorite search engine should get you pointed in the right direction.
