As we use our Windows operating system over time, it is likely to become prone to performance drops and library file corruptions. This can be baffling to an unsuspecting user, after all, it is the exact same system that was working fine when switched on for the very first time. Errors begin to appear and loading the desktop can take increasingly longer to do.
Instead of cursing at the computer and stomping off to make a cup of coffee while it loads, we can regain some control over the Windows start-up speed,
Talking about such pestering problems which always seem to literally pop up at the wrong time, it’s hardly possible to ignore the ‘Sonic Update Manager’ issue which is quite common with manufacturers such as Dell. This prompt always seems to be ready with a most annoying message box to greet the user every time he or she starts up the computer.
This is not actually a software application so as to speak technically but more of a type of an application that runs in relation with software which in this case is Sonic RecordNow software - used for creating one’s own CDs and DVDs. However, the package actually starts trying the user’s patience when he or she decides to click on the cancel button on the message box. In almost no time, the entire desktop gets full with different messages accompanied by pop ups at regular intervals.
In order to get rid of this problem, one can adopt a number of ways. The simplest among them being removing it from the control panel. To do this, one has to go to the control panel and then click on the option of Add or remove programs. This will give a list of all the applications installed in the PC from which the Sonic Update Manager is to be selected and removed.
But then very few are really lucky enough to solve this problem in such an effortless manner. In most of the cases the solution involves a process of disabling this particular application from the startup itself.
This procedure involves a number of steps which commence with clicking on the start menu and then going for the run option. This will produce a message window with a combo box where the user needs to type ‘run’ and then hit the return key.
A window will appear with a number of optional tabs from which the startup tab is to be selected. This will provide a list of the processes which are loaded during startup. The user can manually uncheck any and every Sonic Update Manager and associated applications so that they won’t be loaded when the computer is started the next time. However, in certain cases it may also happen that both of these steps are needed to be taken at the same time.
Restart your computer to be sure that the Sonic Update Manager is no more. You should find that it loads pop-up free and slightly faster too!
