When it comes to computer security, the number one step in protecting yourself is to get and maintain a good up to date antivirus program to stop you from virus attacks. Many of these antivirus applications can be found in computer stores for wide range of costs. However, if you are like most people and would sooner get free software for you computer, there is no other like Avast! Avast! is the name used on a wide range of software products that are distributed by AWIL Software. Their Home Edition of the antivirus application has over 30 million users at the present time, making it one of the most popular free applications ever. So why exactly is this software so popular with internet users today? Well, they have history on their side! Avast is based on AWIL Software’s comprehensive scanning technology that was developed in 1988. It has fast incremental updates to keep the computer user’s antivirus program up to date and uses an advanced multi-layer real time protection of all the various infection vectors of a computer which helps it to protect your computer for malware at any time. In English, if you are browsing a webpage that wants to install software that is dangerous to your system, Avast will be able to detect and stop it for you. It will also scan emails that you have received before you open the attachments that came with them. This alone is a feature not often found with other free antivirus programs. Other features that can be found in ALWIL’s free antivirus program include a screensaver that scans the files of your computer, scheduled scans of your system and a management or control panel that allows you to manage any files that have been locked away in the antivirus application’s chest. Did we mention that they have already created a version of the Avast! Home Edition software that will run on Windows Vista operating system? Of course, in order for ALWIL to be able to offer such a comprehensive program for free to home users, they have to have a way of making money. This is done through their commercial versions of the antivirus software that are available to businesses and other commercial users for a cost. These versions of the antivirus software will come with a few more features that allow a business to manage the antivirus applications on many different computers. They are also entitled to technical support and other features that are not available for the home user. All in all, the Avast! Home Edition is ALWIL’s great service to the internet community. They are preventing the spread of viruses online by providing this software to home users that may not be able to or want to pay for antivirus protection. By doing this they are also helping to protect businesses and other users of the internet that are conscious about properly protecting themselves from the threat of malware that is found online and in emails.

I use Avast. I think it’s excellent. I went ahead and purchased the enhanced version for two years after using the free version for two months instead of 14 months offered and I found enthusiasts in the Avast Forums probably because it is good. I think many Trojans and virus attacks originate in the Eastern Nations first and by the time they get here to the USA hopefully Avast has them nailed. So far so good.
Thank You Very Much
Very Sincerely
